James from Sugarbird

On Episode 12 of the Wedding Mavericks podcast I am chatting with James Mieszkowski from Sugarbird Photography.

It is rare to come across a photographer who crosses styles/genres in such a unique way. James blend’s the natural and documentary with the epic and editorial. His images are  colourful and playful but elegant and classy, and having watched James capture a wedding as a guest before I knew him or was a photographer / videographer myself, I know how relaxed and unobtrusive his approach is, whilst capturing the vibe of the wedding and some amazing. shots!

It was great to hear of James’s journey into photography by working his way through different  jobs in his younger years before working in graphic design. He told me all about how travelling the world with his wife is where he developed a passion for photography and the realisation of not wanting to return to the 9-5 life led him to start shooting weddings over a decade ago.

From shooting a wedding for his neighbour in exchange for a car, to shooting 40+. weddings a year, James has seen massive changes in the industry since he first started, and we discuss how he has adapted and developed his business, how attracting clients has changed and how he built his wedding business built on authenticity.
